Wonderful. How can we escalate this? What are the Law Society and Bar Association doing? What about the people at Direct.gov.uk?

Jeni - I'm saying we can't tell them how to run their business. I agree we go ahead with our own scheme and I'd like to get consensus on that. Will post more detail to the Google Group.

I don't agree with "Although only the courts can settle URIs for their own resources, we must do what we can to inform and influence that process." As I explicitly say in the original post, you shouldn't wait for the real owner of the identifiers to come up with a scheme if that's going to hold up your own process. Create your own scheme and link to theirs when they get around to it.

For the work on the London Gazette that we've done at TSO/OPSI, we needed identifiers for court cases and used a scheme like
http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/id/proxy/{courtName}/{year}/{caseNumber}
. We would love to use a scheme that worked for older court cases as well.

Agree sounds brilliant. Interested from the point of view of Sustainable Community Action. Put some links on that wiki's 'Community resources' page, and set up note for myself to keep an eye on
